JV1 Plays Alvirne to a Scoreless Draw
The Hanover JV1 Bears would look to continue their high level of play from their 1-1 draw vs Windham this past Saturday when they traveled to Hudson NH to square off with the JV Broncos of Alvirne. Hanover would do well with their possession throughout but the Brancos’ back line would swarm all their backs to one side and consistently play with 9 players behind the ball. It would in fact be the Brancos with the first serious chance. In the 18th minute Henry Stefan would make a dive to his right to punch a deep shot wide; reacting quickly, Taehan Kim would be the first to and cleared it out of the area and danger. Hanover’s possession and build up would develop a bit more and sprang Andrew Rudd on a run down the right side; Andrew would look to have a chance and the Bronco keeper would make a serviceable kick save and then their sweeper back #12 cleared it before any rebound opportunity. Hanover would see one final chance before the end of the half where Joseph Rudd would take a free kick 20 yards out that would hit Henry Werner’s head, but the ball would run out harmlessly for a goal kick and end of the half.
In the second half play continued much in the same way it did in the first with the the Bears in possession through the middle third but when looking to enter the attacking third, the Broncos would clear it back into the Bears defensive third. In the 47th Sebastian Bujarski would have a free kick about 5 yards on the Broncos half and sent a ball to the opposite side overloaded, that Broncos back cleared back over the opposite upper 90. The following corner would look promising but would sail off the back side for a goal kick. Hanover would see its best chance in the 52nd. While pressing their back line, Aidan Bradley popped a ball that sat there for Henry Werner, but Henry would sail it about a foot over. Another quality build up would come a few minutes later with Freddie Meirke making a quality centering ball that found Alex Orsino’s foot, but his first time put away would miss the frame. Hanover would continue to find itself in the attacking third for most of the final 15 minutes and had another quality chance with a good switch that had Liam Foston being pressured from behind try to beat the keeper near post but the Broncos keep push it aside for a corner. While The Bears continued to try to play patient swinging the ball side to side, the swarming Broncos proved to be a nut too tough to crack today. While this was also not the result that they had hoped for, coach Willie remarked to the team after the game, “this was not for lack of effort, and could have been worse. You need to use results like this to push you forward and keep improving.” With 6 days off until they host Merrimack next, there will plenty of time to work on their game.
